I'm in a good place now

Last night, as I had my daily conversation with Papa, I told him I've come a long way. Indeed, I am no longer the traumatised 7-year-old struggling living in the shadows of overprotective adults and memories of an unfamiliar father figure. I am now this brave, independent 23-year-old taking the world head on. I often wonder how differently I would turn out to be if Papa was around. Pretty sure he'd still be holding my hand when we cross the roads, he'd still be cooking fried rice in the middle of the night and leaving the unwashed dishes in the sink till morning, he'd still be falling asleep on the sofa while watching soccer (I'm not even sure he actually watches ); above all, he would be the man to lead the family. In retrospect, Papa never failed his duties as a father. If we had spent more time together, I believe he would be the father I asked for and more. This household would be different. We would be different. I  would be different. Here ...

5 lessons job interviews have taught me

Ahhh,  just one more day to the weekends. It has been slightly more than 6 weeks since I entered the corporate world and I must say it has been one hell of a ride (in a good way). As I continued searching for a permanent job in the last 6 weeks, I have attended countless job interviews and needless to say, they have amounted to nothing. I'm not particularly discouraged because I believe everything happens for a reason but I suppose my mom is feeling more jittery than I am. I had the  most unpleasant job interview yesterday and it really left a mark. In fact, it left me wondering whether I deserved such unjustified treatment from whom seemed like a self-entitled high-handed hiring manager. They say you get better with each job interview and I cannot agree more. So after months of job-hunting, I decided to pen down a couple of lessons learned. 1   Be you No one should go into a job interview pretending to be someone else. Of course, we wished we were the perfect ...

Happy

Upon seeing all the #100happydays hashtags on Instagram, I thought I could attempt to do it too. Just that, since I'm no longer active on Instagram (I still browse through my feed every morning though), I shall do it here. ☺ No, I'm not going to post one every day. It's too much of a chore amidst all the deadlines I have to meet. I'll probably collate, say, 5~6 days into one post before publishing. That makes reading a whole lot easier as well, right? But, since today is day 1 , I shall make an exception. ☺ #Day1: 25 March 2014 I've already posted this photo on Instagram but I just wanted to share how proud I am to be my father's daughter. I love finding photos of my dad. It helps me appreciate him in ways I would never have imagined if not for those photos and it helps me see him in ways I would never witness for myself. ☺ I remember on my first Speech tutorial a year ago, we had an impromptu "speech". Okay, I don't know the detai...

2014

8 days into 2014 and I can safely say the year is off to a good start. ☺ Starting off the post with a group shot of Mel, Sab, Kat and myself when we met last Thursday. ☺ The initial plan was to go to Mind Cafe but it was raining so we took shelter at Plaza Sing. Sab suggested we go for some ice-cream but Baskin Robbins was too expensive so Kat brought us to this place called Merely Ice Cream., which wasn't much cheaper but still cheaper. ☺ Anyway, their ice-cream flavours are rather exquisite so it's a good idea to go try if you guys have the time. ☺ I had root beer float and Mel had salted butterscotch (?) while Sab had dark chocolate and Kat… I can't remember. ☹ But go try anyway! I remember they had green tea and other unique flavours. Plus, everything is made from fresh fruits (says their Facebook page) so all the better. ☺ Moving on! Throwback to Christmas at the Uncle's place. ☺ (Intentionally chose photos from that day because I look… ...

SENSITIVITY

Good day, y'all!  As usual, beginning the post with a little something I took off the Internet again : They always say the most pleasant surprises happen when they are least expected. ☺ And I find that so, so true. How else would we better appreciate if we already know it's about to happen, right? ---------- I spent the afternoon with Nisa yesterday! We didn't take any photos. We didn't even remember to take photos together, which happens all the time, but it's alright. We went to Old Town White Coffee  for a late lunch. They were having a promotion so we could choose a main course and drink from an alternate menu for a better deal. Nisa and I both ordered a set of toast. ☺ I had enriched chocolate  (cold) and Nisa had  teh tarik  (hot) for $3.30 per set but she was so hungry she ordered a main course from the ala carte menu. She ate Ipoh Hor Fun (soup) for $10.80 if I'm not wrong while I, being ambitious, ordered a bowl of wanton no...
